Summer Grilling Ideas

Summer is definitely here and if you are among the many that have yet to embrace the fun of grilling out with family and friends, you are not alone. Summertime however is moving a long quite swiftly and it is in your best interest to take in all of the summer days possible before the season ends. Take the time to open up the grill and embrace all that is summer before the long days turn short and the weather turns dreadful cold. Here are some gilling ideas to get you started on the right path.

These little morsels of deliciousness are perfect for the grill. The beauty of kabobs is that they can be made of practically any combination of meats, fruits, and vegetables making them quite a versatile meal. This is one grilling idea that you can get the kids involved in helping with and when kids are involved in making the food, it is much easier to get them to actually eat it as well. Kabobs do have one catch to them that all grillers have to remember. In order to get the different foods on the stick to cook at the same time, they should be cut into roughly the same size and thickness if possible. Also, when using wooden skewers, soak them in water for a few hours before putting flame to kabob.

Sweet Potatoes

Many people are attempting to steer clear of bad carbs. Unfortunately, that includes the highly versatile potato that is a staple in most American homes. The alternative however is both beneficial as well as tasty. The sweet potato is not always given as much credit as it is deserved. Sure, there has been an increase in the number of sweet potato fries available to the public, but deep frying a healthy alternative is a little counterproductive. The solution is not to just fry up a sweet potato and claim to be eating healthier. The key is to truly eat healthier by grilling sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes can be cut into almost any shape for gilling, but if you want to maintain that sweet potato fry appearance, cut them into wedges and add any number of spices such as chili powder, garlic, or even parmesan cheese. Brush them with a little oil to allow the seasoning to stick and you will have healthy and delicious sweet potato fries all season long.

Upgrade Your Toast

Boring toast is highly outdated and avocado toast seems to be everywhere, however avocados are not the only thing that can be good on toast. With the right type of bread, almost any food can be added to make a delicious snack of accompaniment to a meal. There is no reason to heat up the oven, thereby heating up the house this summer just to have the toast you want. Grills are excellent heating sources for all types of foods and that includes toast. Try taking French or Italian style loaves and cutting them into slightly thicker pieces than normal. Again, use a bit of oil to keep the bread from sticking and help browning and add tomatoes, cheeses, mushrooms, avocados, or any number of other summer treats for a fantastic twist on an old favorite.

Grilled Pineapple Salsa

Salsa is probably one of the quintessential summer treats largely due to the overabundance of fresh tomatoes. Tomatoes make the base for any number of salsas, but sometimes you just want something sweet to snack on rather than something savory. Pineapple salsa is the solution and there are a variety of different recipes around to try out, but these recipes rarely include a way to cook the pineapple to make it a little softer and bring out the natural sugars within. Grilling a pineapple is the best way to do both all while adding that additional grilled flavor. A salsa made with grilled pineapple will have your guest scrambling to get more, so make sure you make more than what you originally would need with a standard salsa recipe.

Grilled Okra

The smell of okra cooking is not always something that will have the average person running for the kitchen to sneak a taste. The traditional means of deep frying the vegetable or even pickling it, leave a lot to be desired, but that small vegetable that you have looked to avoid all of your life, no longer needs to be avoided. Okra is quite rich in Vitamin C and accounts for 36% of the recommended daily intake of the vital vitamin. Grilling Okra produces a soft, yet highly flavorful vegetable that can be paired with any number of meats including steak and ribs. Give it a try and see what a difference grilling Okra can make in your desire to eat it.
